Glucose Screening

I had my glucose tolerance test done this morning. It was pretty rough for me to fast, I wasn't able to eat anything as of 9PM last night. I had not craved anything in the past week and last night of course I get the cravings for everything! oy!

I was given a fruit punch flavored liquid that contained 50grams of glucose. The stuff tastes like a very sweet soda pop and I had to get all of it down in five minutes. It would have probably not been as bad if it had been chilled or if they had let me pour it over ice. After drinking it, baby went hyper in the belly and kicked for hakf of the day...did I mention his kicks are getting very strong...ouch!

An hour later after reading a bunch of their mags and not passing out from the hunger, the technician took my blood and I still have the ugly purple bruise...Can't wait for those results and hoping it's all good.

The highlight of the day....Hubby and I went and finished our registry! Well, we are pretty sure we'll go back a few more times and add those items we forgot. We are registered at Bambi Baby and Babies R Us! It was pretty exciting selecting items for my lil' guy.

Mommy to-be Quiz at 25 Weeks!

How far along? 25 Weeks!
• Total weight gain/loss: Last time checked a total of 10, not bad at all for being more than halfway through. Let's see how much more I've gained in next week's appoinntment.

Maternity clothes: Still buying some non-maternity pieces from time to time, hey if it fits...

• Stretch marks: None...

• Sleep: good

• Best moment this week: Uneventful week, just TONS of work.

• Movement: Constant now and strong!

• Food cravings: Just fruits.

• Gender: Baby Boy!!

Labor signs: None...Thank the lord...not even close...15 more weeks to go for that!

• Belly button in or out? Still in...but about to pop!

• What I miss: The energy I used to have past 10PM.

What I am looking forward to: Our Babymoon T-minus 1 week!! =) and NOT looking forward to my glucose screening tomorrow =(

Weekly Wisdom: Stop stressing! Slow down...

• Milestones: 25 Week Mark!! 15 weeks to go!!

What is the baby up to? Head to heels, baby now measures about 13 1/2 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga, but he's beginning to exchange his long, lean look for some baby fat. As he does, his wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and he'll start to look more and more like a newborn. He's also growing more hair — and if I was able to see it, I'd now be able to discern its color and texture.
At this stage (if I could) put an ear to my belly -- I may be able to pick up baby's heartbeat (no stethoscope required). Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving my baby a healthy pink glow. Baby's also soaking up my antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and baby will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

Sneak Peek at Baby's Nursery

We've started doing some little things here and there. I have an idea what I want to do for baby Scerbs nursery but I rather wait until the furniture arrives to make sure I don't change my mind a hundred times.

Before... we decided to change the window treatments to something more modern/contemporary...

After... Love the wood blinds and next will be the drapes...

Mommy to-be Quiz at 24 Weeks!

• How far along? 24 Weeks!

• Total weight gain/loss: Total of 10, not bad at all for being halfway through and it's is all in the belly =)

• Maternity clothes:  Bought a few comfy pants.

Stretch marks: None...

Sleep: good
Best moment this week: I got around to tons of work without freaking out or even being a control freak...these pregnancy hormones can work some magic sometimes.

Movement: Lots!
• Food cravings: Didn't crave much this past week.

Gender: Baby Boy!!

 • Labor signs: None...Thank the lord...not even close...16 weeks,115 days to go for that!

Belly button in or out? Still in...don't know if it still looks like a belly but more like a button..lol

What I miss: Nothing at all

What I am looking forward to: Our Babymoon in less than 2 weeks!! =)
Weekly Wisdom: Take this time to enjoy yourself and some alone time with hubby Things will never be the same --so I've heard. Babymoon=booked!

• Milestones: 24 Week Mark!! 16 weeks, 115 days till delivery!

What is the baby up to? Baby is growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Mommy to-be Quiz at 23 Weeks!

• How far along? 23 Weeks!

• Total weight gain/loss: Total of 10, not bad at all for being halfway through and it's is all belly =)

• Maternity clothes: Nothing this week, weather hasn't been the greatest for it being mid-may so I've been wearing sweat suits---that still fit, yay! =)

• Stretch marks: None...lucky me? Definitely must have my mother's genes =)

• Sleep: sleep all night, but baby wakes me up very early with his kicks and somersaults

• Best moment this week: Mother's Day was definitely special. It was my 1st unofficial Mother's Day.
My husband surprised me with the most gorgeous bouquet of flowers, I wasn't expecting it at all. And a lot of sweet friends wished me a Happy mommy to be day. With a baby in my belly I guess I already count as a mommy!

• Movement: Lots! Baby is a hyper-kick-boxing machine! LOL

• Food cravings: Yuca and garlic mojo, yummm

• Gender: Baby Boy!!

• Labor signs: None...Thank the lord...not even close...17 weeks,122 days to go for that!

• Belly button in or out? Still in...don't know if it still looks like a belly but more like a button..lol

• What I miss: Nothing at all

• What I am looking forward to: Our Babymoon in less than 3 weeks!! =) and  reaching viability week (7 more days!)

• Weekly Wisdom: Of course, you should embrace your budding belly --- and view those pounds as a wonderful sign of the miracle that's growing within. But that doesn't mean you should eat as much as you want of anything you want.

• Milestones: 23 Week Mark!! 17 weeks, 122 days, 2,928 hours to delivery!

• What is the baby up to? Baby is still the size of a papaya but stretching out and putting on the weight. And now that he's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large papaya), I am able to see him squirm and kick underneath my clothes.
Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for his entry into the outside world. Since baby is able to hear the outside noises now, the loud noises that become familiar now — such as Leo's bark or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.

Viability ~ the ability of a fetus to survive outside of the uterus without artificial support If my baby was born this week, there is a small chance he would survive outside the womb, however he knows the best for him is to stay put, explore mommy's belly, get cozy and grow, grow, grow until he reaches full term. Then he can come nad meet the world!

I, like many women start to wonder what might happen if my baby is born prematurely. A baby born between 23 and 24 weeks would have a 10 to 70 percent chance of survival. It truly depends on a number of factors that have to be taken into consideration. There are babies that are born at one pound that beat the odds and go on to live a fairly normal life, while others unfortunately die due to unexpected complications. The smallest babies may survive but grow up with some mental or motor disabilities as a result of their extreme prematurity.

Every day my baby stays in the womb it increases his survival rate by approximately 3 percent during weeks 23 and 26. Generally after 26 weeks the survival rate jumps to 80-90 percent. Baby Scerbs, you have at least 17 more weeks to go!

My Pregnancy Fact: Snoring

I started snoring for the first time in my life--thanks to the more estrogen produced during pregnancy. It contributes to swelling of the mucous membranes that line the nose and it even creates more mucous than normal...EWWW

Poor hubby, I can totally understand him. When he snores I don't find anything sexy about it, therefore I don't expect him to find me as sexy as a hippo in a thong, LOL when I snore. But for the certain nights I've had to wake up in the middle of the night and poke him with my elbow for him to stop....I guess it pays off...how mean...hehe

Research shows that the stuffiness that often triggers snoring is common and temporary during pregnancy and that I should sleep on my side and elevate my head slightly...that doesn't help!!

Mommy to-be Quiz at 22 weeks!

• How far along? 22 Weeks! Kind of confused at this moment since Monday Dr R confirmed I was 24wks but due date doesn't change...hmmm

Total weight gain/loss: Total of 10, not bad at all for being halfway through and it's is all belly =)

Maternity clothes: Got a few more summer dresses (non-maternity) and pretty excited that I can find some and still fit in them...lol

Stretch marks: None...lucky me? Must be my mother's genes =)

• Sleep: Sleeping like a baby. It varies week to week though.

• Best moment this week: There were many best moments this week;  Thursday-we found out baby's gender...Baby Scerbo is a Boy! Same day Hubby and I celebrated our 3rd year of wedded bliss with a nice dinner at Ruth Chris Steakhouse, Monday we ordered baby Scerbo's furniture and this week I felt first outside movement (I could see baby's kick through my skin) amazing!!

Movement: Lots! Baby is kicking tons!

Food cravings: Mangos! Can't have enough of them.

Gender: Baby Boy!!
Labor signs: None...Thank the lord...not even close...129 days to go!

Belly button in or out? Still in...don't know if it still looks like a belly but more like a button..lol

• What I miss: A Peach Martini....joke!

What I am looking forward to: Our Babymoon =)

Weekly Wisdom: champagne cravings can be forgotten with some sparkling grapefruit juice or a cranberry sparkler (cranberry and 7Up)

Milestones: 22 Week Mark!! 18 weeks, 129 days to delivery!

What is the baby up to? At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, my baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. His face is fully formed. There's fine hair (lanugo) covering his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily. Baby is also starting to settle into slepp cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day...wow! It's not hard at all to figure out when since I pay close attention to the kicks as they start and stop.

Also, I guess I should watch what I say -- studies show that my baby is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb and that baby finds gentle music and my own voice most soothing.

Shopping has never been so hard for me...

Hubby and I went shopping for baby Scerbs furniture a few weeks ago. It turned into a whole day thing, yes, we spent at least 5 hours looking at many crib collections. We went home with brochures, researched and well, thought we had narrowed it down to "the one". We returned to the store today to place the order for the one we thought was the one and ended up spending another 4 hours discussing if we were making the right decision...we ended up changing our minds a thousand more times...so I left hubby the responsibility of making the choice...ha! He was stressing after an hour. But I enjoyed watching all the effort he put into selecting his baby's collection and as cruel as it may sound I enjoyed the stress he seemed to be going through thinking if it was the right choice.

Our first choice: Young America
What caught our attention from this collection is that they are GreenGuard certified. The GREENGUARD Certification Program is an industry-independent, third-party testing program for low-emitting products and materials.

Our second choice: Pali Tuscan Forever collection in Java
This a bit more traditional and the detail on the crib is beautiful, however we weren't in love with the dresser or armoire details...there was not much to it, plus we are not too traditional and our home has more of a contemporary/modern feel. We want our baby's room to have that feel as well.

Our third choice: The Metro Lifestyle Collection by Bonavita in Chocolate.
It definitely has the  modern feel and we loved that we are able to select from 2 different style of dressers and they have added for a modern touch the steel knobs.

Take a guess...which collection did my hubby select?

Baby is growing so fast...

Today's appointment was the regular 4 week follow up, it went great and Dr. R confirmed what I kind of already new...Baby Scerbs is a BIG baby! Baby Scerbs measured at 24 weeks and heartbeat was a whopping 148bpm. Eventhough I measured at 25 weeks, my due date will not change...huh?

Soooo looking forward to my next appointment...NOT! Normally during the 24-28th week of pregnancy the Oral Glucose tolerance testing is done, yuck!! this is to screen for gestational diabetes.
And if you're wondering what happens during the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test?....

The oral glucose tolerance test involves quickly drinking a sweetened liquid (called Glucola) yucky!!, which contains 50 g of glucose. The body absorbs this glucose rapidly, causing blood glucose levels to rise within 30 to 60 minutes. A blood sample will be taken from a vein in your arm about 60 minutes after drinking the solution. The blood test measures how the glucose solution was metabolized (processed by the body).

Crossing my fingers that 1, I don't puke that glucola crap and 2, that I am healthy for baby Scerbs.

My Pregnancy Fact: Baby Kicks

I am not sure if they're exactly baby kicks--I am sure at this stage in pregnancy baby's jerks and jolts are normal to be felt. They are pretty strong and boy are they constant!

I feel like baby is practicing martial arts inside my womb and in the mornings his initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged nudges. I have also noticed a pattern in his activities; somersaults in the am to wake me up and in the evening strong baby kicks.

A lot of times I feel like I have some hyoper wiggly worm swimming inside my belly. And then I feel the merest flutters (like butterflies) and the most insistent slugs (like baby doing acrobatics) and when baby gets the hiccups it feels like I have pop corn popping in there lol! It is definitely a very joyful moment.
